J. Robert A. Dugal Jr.
1942-2003
WINTHROP - J. Robert A. Dugal Jr., 60, of Carlton Pond Road, died unexpectedly
Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Maine Medical Center, Portland.
Mr. Dugal was born in Waterville on April 19, 1942, the son of J.R. Alyre
Dugal Sr. and Frances Olive (Veilleux) Dugal. Mr. Dugal was a graduate
of Winslow High School in 1960 and Southern Maine Technical School in
1962. He retired after 40 years of service for the Maine Department of
Transportation as a technician/inspector.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of Winthrop; a
Navy veteran of the Vietnam War as a Seabee; a member of MacCrillis-Rousseau
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post of Winslow; Alfred Maxwell Post, American
Legion, of Winthrop; Father McGowan Council, Knights of Columbus; Abnaki
Assembly 346 4th Degree Knights of Columbus; and the Maine State Employees
Association, for which he was a shop steward and a member of the board
of directors.
Mr. Dugal enjoyed spending time with his family and taking his dogs for
a ride on his John Deere tractor. He also enjoyed working with wood, computers,
flower gardening and rock walls, and was very generous with his time and
resources.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Jane (Pelletier) Dugal of Winthrop;
a daughter, Cheryl Ann Dugal of Augusta; a son, John-Paul R. Dugal and
his wife Kimberly of Winthrop; four brothers, Daniel Dugal and his wife
Pat of Illinois, Gerald Dugal and his wife Sandra of Durham, Bernard Dugal
and his significant other Janet of Thorndike and Conrad Dugal and his
wife Lynn of Augusta; three sisters, Christine Wendler and her husband
Chuck of Iowa, Pauline Curry and her husband Rick of Old Orchard Beach
and Jeannine Robinson and her husband John of Waterboro; a special uncle
and aunt and godparents, Benedict and Marie Perry of Vassalboro; and several
other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 11, at the Plummer Funeral
Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Officers and members of Abnaki Assembly
346 are to meet in full regalia at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home
to prepare for the posting of the guard, Ritual of the Dead and presentation
of the memorial chalice. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated
11 a.m. Saturday morning, April 12, from St Francis Xavier Catholic Church,
Winthrop. Burial will be in the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery at
the convenience of the family.
